About Us

This is the beginning of our next chapter. We always dreamed that one day we would go out on our own and start something. But it's a funny thing how quickly you go from having the whole world ahead of you to the years rolling by in the blink of an eye.

Before we knew it, we were approaching our mid 40's and burned out from our careers in HR and IT. It felt like it was now or never and we took a leap of faith.

Why coffee? For us, coffee means family. Every day after school, we enjoy cafecito with our kids and our parents. Family and friends who can't make it will often Facetime us from their own tables. It is always a special time and an opportunity to catch up or simply unwind.

They say that if you do something you love, you will never work a day in your life. Well, we love our family time and we love coffee. We love trying new things - new origins, new roasts, new ways to make espresso drinks. We discovered some amazing recipes that have become favorites in our home, such as coconut cream and honey lattes and cashew lattes. There were also a few that are better left off the menu. The silver lining is we tried those so you don't have to.

The inspiration for Tarrazu Coffee Co. was our trips to Costa Rica. Gabriela's mom is from Costa Rica and much of her family lives there so she has visited many times. The first time we went together was in 2009 before we were married, and we have been back several times since. It is truly a beautiful country. You could say it is paradise.

Home to unspoiled nature, rain forests, mountains, tropical beaches, volcanoes, and a wide variety of wildlife, Costa Rica is one of the most biodiverse places in the world. Costa Rica has always been a special place for us. Costa Rica also happens to be one of the best places in the world for growing coffee, thanks to its biodiversity and volcanic soil.

Tarrazu Coffee Co. is named for one of the places we visited in Costa Rica. Costa Rica has eight distinct coffee regions, each with their own unique flavor. The Tarrazu (pronounced Tar-ah-zoo) region is one of the most well-known; however, the entire surrounding Central Valley area is home to numerous small farms producing what many consider among the best coffee beans in the world.

We are excited to share our love of coffee with you. We hope you enjoy our coffee as much as we do.
